The Characteristics of these Ancient Roman Ruins
Citânia de Briteiros is an archaeological space from the Iron Age that remained occupied until the time of the Roman invasion of the Iberian Peninsula.
The influence of Romanization in this town, in the 1st century BC, is evident in numerous remains, such as Latin inscriptions, coins from the Republic and Empire, fragments of imported ceramics (terra sigillata), glass and others.
These ancient ruins of Roman (or even pre-Roman) settlements that resided in the Iberian Peninsula are supposed to have been definitively abandoned in the 3rd century, and were later discovered by archaeologist Martins Sarmento in 1875.
