Avenida Nossa Senhora do Sameiro, in Braga

The steps of the Sameiro Sanctuary are located on Avenida Nossa Senhora do Sameiro, parish of Espinho, city of Braga, northern Portugal.

In front of the Crypt stands an imposing and vast staircase (265 steps), at the top of which stand two tall pillars surmounted by images of the Virgin and the Heart of Jesus.
The Characteristics of Sameiro’s stairs

The Sameiro stairs feature a staircase divided into several levels, and there the floor appears covered in irregular white limestone, but we can also see tiles alluding to the themes of the Rosary, and on the different sections of the staircase we can see flower beds with grass and flowers.

The floor of the stairs is mostly made of granite stone, and the rectangular parapets are decorated with grass or flowers such as roses, hydrangeas or small bushes.

The Sameiro stairs end at the rotunda called João Paulo II where we can see the statue of Pope John Paul II and some dedications made by the Archbishops engraved on the walls.
