Tebosa, in Braga

The Chordophone Museum belongs to the artisan Domingos Machado, is located in Tebosa, in Braga, in the north of Portugal, and was opened on September 22, 1995. This museum is a reference in Portugal regarding chordophones and a tribute to the artisan.

Mr. Domingos Machado (born in 1936) learned the art from a young age, passed down by his father. With the evolution of times and art, it gained a national and international reputation.

He has made instruments for several national and international museums, such as for important personalities, George Harrison, Donovan, Júlio Pereira, Fernando Tordo, Carlos Mendes, among others. He conceived the construction of a museum about his art.

After several obstacles and difficulties, on September 22, 1995, he opened his chordophone museum, without any type of support or contribution to the subsidy. His life and work have already been the subject of a thesis at universities.

The museum has a huge variety of chordophones, including the variations that took place over the centuries after medieval times.

The chordophones are organized and catalogued. It should be noted that all instruments were built from scratch by the craftsman and are all operational.

His artisanal workshop is open to the public, and you can view his enormous documentation of his works of art and photos.
