Praça Conde de Agrolongo is a large square opened by Archbishop D. Diogo de Sousa in the 16th century, and in this space we can see a statue in memory of the philanthropist Conde de Agrolongo.
The square was built over the Santa Eufémia vineyard

The square was built over the Santa Eufémia vineyard, hence it is popularly known as Campo da Vinha.

During the Counter-Reformation period, three large monumental buildings were built in the square: the Convento do Pópulo, the Convento do Salvador and the Seminário de São Pedro (the latter was demolished at the beginning of the 20th century).

From 1865 until 1912 it was called Campo de Dom Luís, and in that same year it was renamed Praça Conde de Agrolongo.
This square has great historical and cultural significance for the city of Braga

This square was the scene of important events during the Maria da Fonte Revolution, as the military barracks were located there.

On May 28, 1926, the Revolution of May 28, 1926, led by General Gomes da Costa (who has a statue in the square), began in this square.

During the Estado Novo, it was the scene of large military parades, demonstrations of strength and oppression of the people of Braga.

The year 1930 was marked by the visit of António Oliveira Salazar who, in this square, before thousands of people, proclaimed his ideals.

This square was also the scene of great tensions during the Carnation Revolution, on April 25, 1974.

The headquarters of the Portuguese Communist Party was located at the top and was invaded and set on fire by people on August 11, 1975.
