Rua do Souto is the most traditional shopping street, it is an exclusively pedestrian street that connects Largo Barão de São Martinho to Largo do Paço.

The History of Rua do Souto in Braga
 
Rua do Souto was built by Archbishop D. Diogo de Sousa in 1466, it was a land of chestnut trees that gave access to the old Braga castle destroyed in 1906.

In the years between 1897 and 1942 it was called Rua Rodrigues de Carvalho and then it was renamed Rua do Souto.

Line 1 of the Braga Tram passed through this long street between 1914 and 1963.

In 1926 this street was paved in parallel.

In the 90s this street was paved with granite slabs, which remain to this day.
